I'm thinking of getting Sky, but what are the main differences between the sports channels?

They like to spread things around, to push subscribers into getting all the sports channels, but Sports 1 is the main footy channel. Next season, on Sats. @ 17.15, and Mondays, Setanta (pay-to-view) have the rights for these matches; they will not be on Sky.
