What does it mean to "single crochet 2 stitches?"?

If you end up 4 sc instead of 8, sounds like you will to "2 single crochets together". You would pull up a loop in each of the next two stitches - you'll have 3 loops on your hook - then yo and pull through all three loops. It's also called a sc decrease.
