Women can start to look better by watching more refined looking ones?

At our top B-school program, there is a girl that is exceptional beautiful and with refined manners. All the other girls want to be like her. But at the same time, they are jealous of her like hell and work together to give her hard time and undermine her. Weirdly, those girls start to look better while the exceptional one goes down hill a bit, though she is still much better than the others. What exactly is happening here? Evil force win?
